FAQ

What is astrology?

Astrology is a system and language that seeks to interpret and understand the movement of celestial bodies. It is based on the premise that there is a connection between the patterns and rhythms of the cosmos and the events and experiences of human life (much like how the moon affects water on our planet, and even within us). Astrology can be traced back to ancient civilizations, including the Babylonians, Greeks, and Egyptians, who developed complex systems for understanding the movements of celestial bodies and their significance to human life. Today, astrology is practiced in many different cultures and traditions, with various techniques and methods used for interpreting astrological charts and predictions. It has evolved into a helpful tool in self-analysis and psychology, and provides entertainment as well.

What is a birth chart?

A birth chart, also known as a natal chart, is an astrological map that represents the positions of the celestial bodies at the moment of a person's birth. It is believed that the positions of the Sun, Moon, planets, and other celestial bodies at the time of a person's birth can have an influence on their personality traits, life experiences, and future events.

A natal chart is represented as a circular diagram divided into 12 sections, or houses, each representing a different area of life such as relationships, career, and spirituality. The placement of the planets within these houses, as well as their aspects to one another, can provide insight into a person's strengths, weaknesses, tendencies, and potential life experiences. They are unique to you!

What is needed to calculate a birth chart?

To calculate and create a birth chart, I will need to know the time, date, and location of birth. This information is used to calculate a snapshot of the positions of the planets and other celestial bodies at this moment in time.

How do I provide this information with my order?

On the checkout page, scroll to the very bottom until you see a box that says "Instructions or Notes (optional)". Here, you can fill in the birth time, date, and location needed for the report(s) you are purchasing (copy paste this section from the listing for the most ease). If you are purchasing multiple reports for different people, please describe which set of information is for each report. If this information is missing at the time of purchase, I will reach out to you directly via email. Please keep in mind that this can cause a delay in delivery.

Do I need to know the exact time of birth?

The short answer is no. If you have a general idea of the birth time (e.g., morning, afternoon, or evening), you can still create a natal chart using a "noon birth time" or a "sunrise birth time." However, keep in mind that the accuracy of the chart will be reduced if the birth time is not exact, but will still provide useful astrological information.

That said, the exact time of birth is an essential piece of information needed to create an accurate natal chart because it determines the position of the planets and other celestial bodies in the sky at the moment of a person's birth. Each planet moves at a different speed and changes position continuously, so even a difference of a few minutes in the birth time can result in a different chart and interpretation.

For example, the rising sign, which represents a person's outward appearance and how they are perceived by others, changes every two hours. If the birth time is off by just a few minutes, it could result in a different rising sign, which can significantly affect the interpretation of the chart. Additionally, the Moon in the chart is closely related to a person's emotional nature and can affect their relationships and inner world. The exact birth time is crucial to accurately determine the Moon's position in the chart.

Each planet moves through each of the 12 houses in the span of 24 hours due to the rotation of the Earth on its axis. However, the exact placement of the planets within the houses will be different depending on the time of day and location on Earth.

Overall, having the exact birth time allows for a more accurate and detailed interpretation of a person's natal chart.

What do I do if the birth time is unknown?

Depending where and when you were born, you can sometimes find your time of birth on your birth certificate. If you don't have access to your birth certificate or it is not there, you can try asking your parents or other family members who may have been present at your birth. If you are unable to obtain your exact birth time through these methods, there are a few other options you can explore. One option is to check with the hospital where you were born to see if they have a record of your birth time. You can also search for your birth record through your state or province.

Alternatively, if you have a general idea of your birth time (e.g., morning, afternoon, or evening), you can still create a natal chart using a "noon birth time" or a "sunrise birth time." However, keep in mind that the accuracy of the chart will be reduced if the birth time is not exact, but will still provide useful astrological information for you.

What House System is used?

I calculate my reports using the Placidus house system. Placidus divides the ecliptic into 12 houses of 30 degrees each and uses the birthplace's latitude, longitude, and birth time to calculate the degree of the Ascendant and the cusps of the remaining houses. This system accounts for the Earth's curvature and tilt, causing some houses to be larger or smaller than 30 degrees. It's widely used in Western astrology for its accuracy and provides a nuanced understanding of the relationships between the planets and the houses. If there is a different house system you prefer, please reach out and ask!
